Position: Licensed Addiction Counselor – Tri County Addiction Program

Close Date: Open Until Filled

Hours: Typically Monday – Friday (must be flexible)

Job Summary: Performs work tasks as an addiction counselor in areas of assessments; group, individual, and family counseling; lectures; crisis intervention; and outcome reports.

Essential Job Responsibilities: Maintain program record keeping in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with program and state requirements. Conduct diagnostic/placement assessments; provide group, individual, and family counseling services, client lectures, and case management services, in accordance with best clinical practices, laws, and administrative rules. Under supervision of licensed clinical professional counselor or clinical social worker, identify, coordinate, and/or provide direct care to consumers with co-occurring disorders. Offer crisis stabilization services, as needed. Refer individuals to needed adjunct services and/or appropriate level of care. Provide training and presentations to community groups and agencies on related substance abuse topics. Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with federal and state laws.

Qualifications: Comprehensive knowledge of addiction, theoretical models of therapeutic change processes, and best clinical practices; primary Axis I and II diagnoses; group theory and practice; instructional techniques; family education and support; working knowledge of assessment procedures, including diagnostics and placement; knowledge of laws and administrative rules relevant to chemical dependency, mental health, and confidentiality; of community resources and referral procedures; and thorough knowledge of ethical performance standards and their application.

Education & Experience: The above knowledge and competencies are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in a Behavioral Science with specific coursework or training in addiction, symptomology and treatment of other mental disorders, and licensure as an addiction counselor in the State of Montana.
